Medical Assistant/Certified Phlebotomist

Department: SM
Location: Fresno, CA

Position: Medical Assistant/Certified Phlebotomist

Job Summary: Performs administrative and clinical duties, including phlebotomy, in coordination with the Physician to provide quality health care to patients.

Educational Requirement:

  • High school diploma
  • Completion of a Medical Assisting program as well as a Phlebotomy program preferred

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Certification as a Phlebotomist in the state of CA with an active CPT-1 Certification- Please attach your certification.
  • Strong communication skills with staff, personnel, physicians and patients
  • Minimum 1 year of blood drawing experience (minimum 100 draws)
  • Ability to effectively interview patients
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize workflow in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic computer skills (EMR use preferred)

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Collect specimens based on SPOC protocols
  • Preparing specimens for testing
  • Taking inventory, stocking supplies and sanitizing
  • Rooming patients and taking vitals
  • Documenting patient information in EMR
  • Assist and setup procedures
  • Arrange and pre-certify DME as needed
  • Assist front office in checking patients in/out and scheduling
  • Rx authorizations and refills through the physician

Typical Physical Demands

Position requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Some occasional patient handling will be required. Good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, and other office equipment is also required. Employee must have normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports.

Typical Working Conditions

Normal clinical working environment.

Compensation: $21-$30/hr
